Homemade Soft Everything Pretzels
Don’t be intimidated by making soft pretzels at home! It is way easier than you think! With just a handful of ingredients, you can have homemade soft pretzels! My girls love buying soft pretzels every time we hit the mall, but unfortunately for them, our mall is near extinction, so we don’t go all that often! I knew that we could make an at home version of soft pretzels and it ended up being way easier than I thought!
Last year when we were all locked down and making bread, I finally tackled my fear of yeast! I have used it many times, but never felt confident and was always worried that I would kill the yeast. Well, during March of 2020, with nothing but time on my hands, I mastered bread making and conquered my yeast fears! The yeast is easy to use in this recipe. If you are unable to correctly identify water temperature with your hand, feel free to use a candy thermometer to double check! You want the yeast between 90 and 110 degrees Fahrenheit for this recipe.
What is everything but the bagel seasoning?
Everything but the Bagel Seasoning is all the rage right now. It is one of those food trends that just won’t quit! It is definitely one of my favorite seasoning blends and tastes so good on chicken, fish, and avocado toast! It is a combination of sesame seeds, poppyseeds, garlic, onion, and sea salt.
Where can you buy Everything but the Bagel Seasoning?
Everything Bagels are one of our favorites and it just seemed to make sense to add the seasoning to our homemade soft pretzels! I purchase mine at Aldi but I know that the original version is from Trader Joe’s. You can grab it on Amazon, too!

In a large bowl, combine yeast, warm water, melted butter, sugar and salt. Stir and let yeast bubble for 5 minutes.
Stir in the flour, as needed to form a cohesive dough.
Fold the dough out onto a clean surface and knead for 5 minutes.
Place dough back in bowl and cover with a clean kitchen towel. Set in a warm spot of your kitchen and allow dough to rise until doubled, about 15-20 minutes.
Preheat oven to 475F.
Boil 4 cups of water and dissolve baking soda in it. Remove from heat and allow to cool until just warm.
Divide pretzel dough into 8 equal pieces, then shape into pretzel shapes.
To shape dough into pretzels, roll each segment into 1" thick ropes. Form the rope into a U-shape, then take both ends and twist twice at the top. Invert the twisted edges to the bottom of the U-shape and press dough together to secure.
Place shaped pretzels in the warm baking soda water for 2 minutes then move to a lined baking sheet.
Sprinkle pretzels with EBTB seasoning and bake for 8-10 minutes until golden brown.
