Ahhh! Can you feel Christmas in the air?!?
Being ‘Down Under’ Christmas is usually teamed with blazing hot sun, long days and summer dresses… recently, the weather here has been winteresk- grey, raining and cold.
After being woken up at some un-godly hour by the not so gentle hints of one little furry Puss with high pitched meows (without a breath in between) I decided sleep was not going to happen, I caved and took her outside. I was instantly hit with the Christmas vibe when in the early hours of the morn, the sun peeping over the hills and trees in the distance… it was warm!
I started thinking all things stars, glitter, green, red and of course cookies…
Sore point here. I am not sure if I updated you on my oven situation… but it’s bad. After spending another few hundred dollars on it this week, the man should have just said ‘Sorry ma’am, but she couldn’t be revived’ but instead… he charged be almost $200 dollars to look and then say ‘I could fix it, but it probably won’t solve the problem…’ Go figure.
They say there is a silver lining in every dark cloud… and in this case, it is an expensive, beautiful machine that I have had my eye on for ages… but my wallet just hasn’t got the message yet 😉 So until I save a little more… or they have an outstanding sale. I am oven less… cookies aren’t happening yet…
But chocolate is….
I got this idea from a magazine I read, except in their version was a little healthier… a little water instead of milk, not as much chocolate… no chilli. Okay, so it was pretty different!
I am slightly obsessed with a little chocolate shop down the road that makes chilli hot chocolate… OH so GOOD! So I played and adapted and came up with this idea. Perfect for cold nights to wrap your hands around or… if you are feelin’ the summer sun… let it cool and add a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Now, I need your help… give me some Christmas inspiration that I don’t need an oven for….!
Chilli Hot Chocolate
- 1 cup milk
- 4-5 tablespoons grated chocolate of choice I suggest as a minimum. Can add more depending how thick and strong you want it
- Pinch of cinnamon
- Pinch of cayenne pepper
- Pinch of salt
- Sugar to taste
- 1 ½ teaspoons of raw cacao can use cocoa
Add all of the ingredients (except the sugar) into a saucepan and heat on low heat.
Stir until the chocolate is melted. Taste and add sugar if needed/to desired taste.
Stir until the sugar is melted and it begins to simmer. The more chocolate you have added, the thicker it will become when it cools before drinking.
Pour into a mug and add a little extra grated chocolate. Serve warm.
All ingredients can be adjusted for personal taste.
