Easy 5 Ingredient Grilled Banana Fosters S'mores

S’mores are the quintessential summer dessert. The second the snow melted at my parent’s home, my daughter was urging Grandpa to uncover the fire pit and to bring out the s’more ingredients. She loves everything about s’mores. Getting the ingredients from the pantry, putting the “mishmallow” on the stick, smooshing together the ingredients after roasting, and then of course, eating them! There are so many different ways to make s’mores and they don’t always require a camp fire, which makes them a great weeknight or anytime dessert! Check out an entire page of S’mores recipes here!

These grilled s’mores really blew my daughter’s mind. She looked at me like I was crazy when I suggested throwing the s’mores on the grill. She thought I was even crazier when I told her we were going to include something other than her three favorite ingredients.

Have you seen these flat and square marshmallows? I was so excited (and so was she!) when we spotted these at Walmart because they are the perfect s’more shape and ensure that you get marshmallow in every bite! It makes sense…square graham crackers, square chocolates, square marshmallows….good thinking Kraft. I applaud you. I started seeing square graham crackers that you don’t have to break for s’mores last summer in stores and I am glad to see them back again!

Okay back to the important information at hand…these Grilled Banana Fosters S’mores! They take our favorite summer dessert and really kick it up a notch. I need to talk about these grilled bananas. Have you ever grilled one? I have mentioned here that we will grill anything in our family My Dad has been grilling fruit for years now and bananas are no exception. When you grill them, they take on a completely different flavor. They really taste like they have some alcohol, particularly rum,  poured over them after grilling from all the caramelization of their sugars.Easy 5 Ingredient Grilled Banana Fosters S'mores

When I was thinking of how I could change up the ordinary s’more, I immediately thought of these grilled bananas with their caramely, rummy (that is definitely not a word) flavor. This is very reminiscent of bananas foster, but the beauty of this  is that you get the flavor, without having to use the actual rum (go ahead and throw a dash in if you are so inclined though!), so they are kid friendly!

These Grilled Banana Fosters S’mores can be made in less than 10 minutes which makes them the perfect summertime dessert after a meal on the porch or deck. Your grill is probably still hot from dinner, if you grill everything in sight like we do, so you can just throw the bananas on there while you are clearing the table, and dessert is ready in no time.

No need to start a campfire for these S’mores, although they are fun and great for special occasions, they aren’t always practical on a busy weeknight! This is the perfect recipe to treat your kids to on a school or work night, with barely any prep or cook time! We actually made these two different ways. One was to just grill the bananas and then top with the marshmallow and chocolate.

smoresgrill5A regular s’more is ooey gooey and messy and this one is no exception! The hot banana helps melt the chocolate and things can get a little squishy. I actually enjoyed mine better by using a plate and fork! Just a warning to have some napkins ready!

I hope you are enjoying this turn in the weather and that you have many outdoor dinners in your future. I know we do!!
