I am not kidding when I call this an Effortless Burlap Star Bunting. You only need two items and about 30 seconds to make this bunting! #homeforchristmas
Christmas is my favorite time of the year and I love to spend weeks on creating projects, baking cookies, and decorating. This year, I have a new motto, the simpler the better. If you read my post Friday about how things haven’t gone as planned this season, then you know that we had a fire a few weeks ago and only got back into our house yesterday. So normally, I would have the entire house decked out weeks ago, but instead, we are just putting up our decorations now. I feel so behind and was stressed about it until I finally convinced myself that the stress isn’t necessary. I put out only the decorations I absolutely love and will keep the rest packed for next year. I will keep my holiday baking simple and use recipes I know and love, and will keep the holiday entertaining until after Christmas, so we can have some time to get settled and get the house organized.
With simplicity in mind, I haven’t created many decor projects this year. This effortless burlap star bunting is one of about three very small crafts I did and it is embarrassingly easy. You only need two items to make this bunting and it takes literally 30 seconds.
I picked up these burlap stars at Michael’s. They are meant to be gift tags so they are already punched with a hole in them. No cutting, no hole punching, no frayed pieces of burlap all over my kitchen…sounds like a win to me! If you aren’t into stars, they had a bunch of other shapes. The second item is baker’s twine. I picked up the red and white striped to add a little color.
And here is the complicated tutorial…cut a piece of twine to whichever size you want, string your stars on, and then hang where desired! I hung mine on our radiator cover in our living room. Make sure to leave enough extra twine on each side so that you have enough to either tie to tape to where you are hanging it.
I love how it brings some Christmas color to my otherwise neutral decor here. I have really found this year that I am reaching more for neutrals in holiday decorating. I kept most of my bright red and green items in the boxes and instead gravitated towards gold, silver, and beige.

YOu had me at “effortless”. I love it! The sign on your mantel is so great too!
Thank you! I love that sign too! I just got it this year and it’s perfect!
What a great idea to use gift tags!!! LOVE!
Thank you…I thought it was a good idea too, albeit a lazy one!

Emily, this is a great and easy little project! I love how it turned out.
This is great – and I love the reindeer and Christmas sign!
You may call this so simple but I definitely call it being creative and re-purposing something so cute. And I really like the reindeer. I have pinned for inspiration for another Christmas and to buy in the after Christmas sales. Merry Christmas.
Thank you so much Donna!!
I love this! The little star garland is such a cute idea! I would love to make something like this and drape it in my kids bedroom. I may just do that before the season is up. Thanks for the idea!
Your sign is gorgeous and the banner looks great with it. I think I may just make one… from scratch… thanks for the inspiration.
From scratch would be awesome…you could really customize the shape and colors then!
I absolutely love this – simple, quick and easy – my kind of project. Perfect with your sign and reindeer. Cathy
