How to Hide Toys in Plain Sight

As we get closer to baby number 2’s arrival, I realize more and more that we need to do something about all the “stuff” we have here in the house. Toys, a million small Barbie pieces, hundreds of stuffed animals, every type of crayon imaginable…the list goes on. I cannot stand toys visibly strewn across the living room, so I knew I had to get creative and organize this chaos. My first step was having a garage sale where I sold as much as I could. I would have loved to sell a lot more, but I had a very unrelenting four year old stopping me! I then threw away everything that was broken or missing pieces or that was complete junk…you know those toys that I am talking about…the really weird random junky toys that you have no idea where they even picked them up.

Once I got rid of everything I was left with just a very small pile of toys. Just kidding…there are still hundreds of toys coming out of my eyeballs. So now I just needed a place for them all. I am not a plastic toy storage type of gal. In a playroom, that’s fine, but I needed to find a way to hide all the kid clutter in plain sight in our main living areas. I wanted the toys to magically disappear into our living room and that’s when I realized that baskets, bins, and trunks were my best friend. By buying attractive storage pieces, you can easily hide the toys in plain sight while not compromising on the styling of your house. I put together a guide on eBay with links to lots of great pieces that work as attractive toy storage!

  1. I feel your pain with the toys and clutter. I almost can’t go into the basement, but I’m doing my best to maintain it there. Now that it’s summer, we’re focused on getting the kids to take better responsibility for their toys and game, and I have a feeling we’ll be picking up some of those storage solutions you suggest! #client

    1. We just finished our basement and I have been slowly bringing all the toys down here, so while it is awesome to have them all in one spot, they are a giant mess, so I feel ya!

  2. Baskets are great, I use them everywhere in my closets for storage and they look so pretty too, Nice post.

  3. I agree, you need something beautiful that can be in the living room but hide the toys. I need more baskets I think 🙂 Pinned!

  4. I am a big fan of decorative boxes and baskets! My husband does not like any clutter, but being empty nesters, it isn’t too difficult to hide it all!

    1. I wouldn’t trade these years with my little kids for anything, but I imagine that it is nice one day to not have all the toys around!!
