Tinker Bell's Pixie Hollow Play Dough A fun and inexpensive way to make homemade scented and glittery play dough!

One of the best things about having kids is that you get to relive your favorite memories of childhood. Disney movies, the princesses, and of course everyone’s favorite fairy, Tinker Bell. Tinker Bell has come a long way since I was young though. She is no longer just a character in Peter Pan, she has taken on a big role of her own! Have you seen the Tinker Bell movies? They are adorable and I love watching them with my daughter. When we heard that there would be a new movie, Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast, we were so excited! The movie was just released this week on March 3rd and I picked it up the day it came out from Walmart.

All smiles picking up all her new Tinker Bell gear!

I thought it would be fun to have an entire Tink themed day, so we went to Walmart, bought a few new fairy toys, picked up the movie on Blu-Ray, and then went home to do a themed activity. We picked up a few ingredients while at the store to make this super simple homemade playdough. It is made with Jello, so it not only turns out silky smooth, but it smells great as well! We threw in some glitter and named it Pixie Hollow Play Dough! While the dough was cooling, we put on the movie and sat down to see what was going on in Pixie Hollow with all the fairies and the NeverBeast! It was an adorable movie!

You can find both the DVD and Blu-Ray version of this movie in the electronics section at Walmart.

If you have never made homemade scented play dough before, I really encourage you to! It is inexpensive, easy, and it stays smoother so much longer than store bought. There are endless jello flavors, so you have so many choices! Play dough has recently become the most popular activity in our house so I knew this sparkly green version would be a big hit. We used the pair of wings that came with our new Tinker Bell doll to play with in the dough!

Here’s all you need!
1 cup flour
1 cup warm water
1 3 oz. packet of jello, generic is fine
2 tbsp. oil, canola or vegetable
2 tbsp. cream of tartar
2 tbsp. glitter

In a small sauce pan, combine all ingredients, except for glitter. Stir to combine. Turn your heat on medium and stir, stir, and stir some more. You will stir for about 5 minutes. You are done whenever the dough has formed and you can no longer stir. Make sure it is to the point of unstirrable or else your dough may turn out too sticky. Put the dough onto a non stick baking mat or a floured counter top. Let sit for half an hour until cool and then add glitter. Knead until a solid ball forms and all the glitter is equally distributed.

The last batch we made stayed soft for at least a month! Just like regular play dough, store in an airtight container and it will stay smooth!

What are your favorite things about having kids? I know I love all the excitement that Disney characters bring and can’t wait to show my daughter Disney World for the first time!

[…] Once the play dough is cooled, pull out some cookie cutters and rolling pins from your kitchen and you get hours of entertainment! This activity is great because it appeals to older and younger kids. While my toddler can’t make the play dough, I know she will enjoy playing with it with her older sister! Here is my favorite recipe for homemade play dough. […]
