Easter Hot Chocolate Bombs
If 2021 had a signature food, it would be the Hot Cocoa Bomb! Maybe its because we all have more time on our hands, but regular hot chocolate will no longer do! Hot Chocolate Bombs are so fun for kids and adults!
What is a hot cocoa bomb?
Funny story, my friend thought hot cocoa bombs were bath bombs made for the tub! While they do look like their bath counterpart, these delicious chocolate treats are molded chocolate stuffed with hot cocoa powder and assortment of items- sprinkles, marshmallows, or whatever you like! You place them in your favorite mug and then pour warm milk over them. I actually don’t love hot cocoa, so I add mine to coffee!
We have been enjoying hot cocoa bombs all winter, but with spring just around the corner, I thought these brightly colored pastel bombs would be fun! Stuff these in Easter baskets or just enjoy for Easter morning!
What do you need to make hot chocolate bombs?
You will need the following ingredients:
7-8 oz White Chocolate or Almond Bark
Alcohol Based Food Coloring (not gel)
3/4 cup Hot Chocolate Mix of choice
Pastel Spring or Easter Themed Sprinkles
You will also need a double boiler and silicone molds. If you do not have a double boiler you can boil water in a pan with a lid and put a bowl containing the chocolate on top of the lid. This will work just as good as a double boiler.
The process is easy too! You melt the chocolate, add to a mold and then let sit. Once hardened, fill with hot cocoa mix and sprinkles and then slightly melt chocolate to adhere it to the other half. Let set up and decorate!
How to Store Hot Chocolate Bombs?
Hot cocoa bombs should be stored in a cool, dry place. Keep them away from heat or they will melt. Bombs should last at least 2-3 weeks when stored properly. I do not recommend freezing hot chocolate bombs.

Easy Hot Chocolate Bombs
These beautiful pastel hot chocolate bombs are perfect for Easter!
- 7-8 oz White Chocolate or Almond Bark
- Alcohol Based Food Coloring do not use gel food coloring
- 3/4 cup Hot Chocolate Mix of choice
- Colored Marshmallows
- Pastel, Spring or Easter Themed Sprinkles
Melt white chocolate (or almond bark) in a double boiler.
Add food coloring, a few drops at a time, to melted chocolate and stir until well blended (this step can be repeated several times until you achieve the desired color)(optional).
Spoon several tablespoons of melted chocolate into mold and “paint” the entire mold using the back of a small spoon - make sure you get the chocolate all the way to the top of the mold.
Allow molds to rest until chocolate is hardened. (If desired, speed up this process by placing molds in freezer for several minutes).
Gently pop chocolate spheres out of molds, being careful not to chip them.
Rotate bottom half of bomb on a warm plate to smooth edges.
Fill with 1/4 cup hot chocolate mix and colored marshmallows to taste.
Rotate top half of sphere on warm plate to smooth edges and gently press two halves together. The slightly melted edge will seal the two halves. Do this step quickly so that the chocolate doesn’t start to dry before you get the halves together.
Drizzle tops with melted white chocolate and pastel/Easter sprinkles.
To serve, place one bomb in a mug and pour hot milk or water over it to melt, stir.
