Peanut Butter and Jelly Protein Smoothie

For years I have watched Ryan workout and exercise for countless hours every week. I would join him on occasional month long bursts of motivation and exercise too. And during those months, I felt fantastic and so healthy. When I exercise, I also eat less, because I don’t want to undo everything I just did.

Well for the last year or so I have been slacking but a few months ago I decided enough was enough and joined a new gym and cleaned up our diets. I love my new gym and am really enjoying my workouts there, which is so important. If it feels like work, it just isn’t going to happen. As for our food, I am trying to stick to a new regiment that isn’t a diet, just a healthy, cleaner lifestyle. I love to cook (obviously, or else I wouldn’t love this blog so much!) and sometimes it is hard to keep my cooking healthy because there are so many things I want to try and share with you all.

Well this week I tried out two new recipes which are both healthy and so delicious.  I need something to help curb my sweet tooth but will still work into our healthier lifestyle. I will try to keep the Peanut Butter Pie Poke Cake recipes for just special occasions! I first made a 5 ingredient fudge which is seriously to die for and I need to blog soon because we ate the whole batch. The other healthy item I have been making are protein smoothies. They are filling, full of nutrition, and most important, they are a touch sweet so they satisfy my sweet tooth. I have been making mine as a meal replacement for breakfast, but Ryan enjoys his after his nightly workouts.

I use a girly vitamin/protein mix in mine but Ryan was looking for more protein to help his muscles grow and repair after working out. I purchased the EAS Myoplex Protein Ready to Drink Shakes at Walmart and used them as the base for his protein shakes and he is loving the results. These Ready to Drink shakes, before I add in all the smoothie stuff, have 42 grams of protein in them! 42!! That is crazy!! They are perfect for anyone looking to help recover from workouts, build muscle mass, or maintain their existing muscle tone. You can drink them on their own straight from the container, but they become more of a dessert like treat when they are mixed up into these Peanut Butter and Jelly Protein Smoothies!

The ingredients are simple and these make less than 2 minutes to throw together. You can substitute ingredients and make them to suit your tastes, but I love the combination of sweet strawberries (that’s the jelly part!) with the saltiness of the peanut butter. A note on the peanut butter. It isn’t the lowest calorie or low fat option, so if you are looking to lose weight, try a powdered peanut butter. You could also switch up the berries to any that you like! Raspberry or blueberry would be great, just make sure you use frozen ones! That helps to add bulk and thicken the smoothie. If you only have fresh, or prefer those, just add a big handful of ice cubes to ensure you still get the same results!

Peanut Butter and Jelly Protein SmoothieDo you drink smoothies? I would love to hear some more recipes so that I can try a couple new ones!

  1. My teenage son drinks smoothies. His favorite is EAS Myoplex vanilla with a scoop of peanut butter, a handful of frozen strawberries, and some whole milk. We’ve been trying to bulk him up for years, and Myoplex seems to be doing the job. He gained 20lbs over the summer! #client

  2. This recipe was amazing! Used strawberry protein powder with peanut butter and frozen berries….thanks!

    1. Thanks Shelli!! I’m so glad you liked it! Strawberry protein powder would make it even more delicious!
