Italian Cheesesteak Sliders

Italian Cheesesteak Sliders are my favorite beef slider recipe. I am always trying to come up with a way to mix up our favorite meals and we of course, love philly cheesesteaks!  I don’t often serve sandwiches for dinner, but when I do, I want them to be amazing! This easy cheesesteak recipe is no exception! There are so many flavors in this little sandwich!

Italian Cheesesteak Sliders

I decided to make our cheesesteaks “Italian” style, with lots of banana peppers, roasted red peppers, and garlic mayonnaise. I replaced the traditional whiz cheese with provolone and mozzarella, and the results were delicious. I was able to find super thin sliced steak in our grocery store. Buy the thinnest you can find, but please don’t resort to the frozen Steak Umms! Feel free to substitute the peppers to your taste. My daughter was eating these, so I went with sweet peppers, but I think spicy banana peppers would be even more delicious.

The two types of cheese and the garlic mayonnaise are essential here. I love to use both sliced and shredded cheese when I make sandwiches because they each have a different texture and add to the cheesiness of the sandwich. I like to shred my cheese myself because it melts so much better than preshredded. And let’s give the garlic mayo a little shoutout. I am not the biggest mayo fan, but this pregnancy is making me crave it. By adding a couple cloves of garlic to the mayo you get such a delicious flavor infused into your sandwiches.

These little sandwiches were so good that I couldn’t wait to eat the leftovers the next day. I thought there may be a thrown down as to who got to eat the last two, but I relented and let my husband take them for lunch. This would make a great party appetizer or snack as well. You could easily double the recipe and make a big batch.

Italian Cheesesteak Sliders

Ingredients

  • 1 12 pack of sweet Hawaiian rolls
  • 2 roasted red peppers drained well and finely chopped
  • 2/3 cup pepperorcini or banana peppers drained well and chopped
  • 4 slices of provolone cheese
  • 4 oz. of mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1 lb. of thinly sliced steak
  • 1 onion sliced fine
  • 2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp. steak sauce
  • salt pepper, to taste
  • 3 tbsp. mayonnaise
  • 2 garlic cloves minced

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Add garlic cloves to the mayonnaise and set aside.
  2. Split the tops of the rolls from the bottoms and place the bottoms in the bottom of a casserole dish. Place casserole in the oven and cook for about 5-6 minutes, or until bun bottoms are nicely toasted. (this step prevents the buns from getting too soggy once you add the toppings)
  3. Meanwhile, cook steak in a large skillet. While cooking, add onions, Worcestershire sauce and steak sauce and then season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook until steak is cooked through.
  4. When bottom buns are toasted, place the four slices of cheese across the bottom of the buns. and then layer with steak and onion mixture, peppers, and then the mozzarella cheese.
  5. Spread the mayonnaise on the bottom of the bun tops and then place on top.
  6. Cover casserole dish with foil and then return to the oven. Cook for 8-10 minutes or until cheese is melted and the buns start to brown.
  7. Remove from oven and serve immediately.
