Have you seen the new Disney Pixar movie Inside Out? It just came out on Friday and is adorable. Both my husband and I were laughing out loud during it and my daughter loved it. It tells the story of Riley and how her emotions really control her! It is such an important lesson for kids and I know it will definitely become a favorite movie in our house with my three year old.
We hosted an Inside Out Party last week so that my daughter and her friends could get excited about the movie and also try out some of Walmart’s new Inside Out toys. I had so much fun planning for this party and I think it was definitely a success! I planned the menu around the movie’s characters and I based the decor on the movie poster. I loved how it was full of bright colors and dots, so I stuck to that theme. It was easy because I didn’t feel like I had to stick to a color, but could just use things I had, as long as they were bright!
For decor, I used a turquoise blue table cloth and then used brightly colored serving dishes on top. I also used my white serving dishes to break up some of the color. I used polka dot plates and a banner that went with the bright polka dot theme perfectly. The banner was so long that I was able to cut it and use some of it to welcome the guests at the door!
I set up this colorful little table with Inside Out coloring books for when they needed a playing break! The kids all got to take these home at the end of the party. I purchased these coloring books at Walmart.
I also made food tags for all of the menu items. This is something I do for all of my parties and I love the touch it adds! For this party, I just googled the character’s pictures, cut them out, and then glued it onto cardstock.
I also printed the movie poster in an 11 by 17 and just push pinned it onto canvas. It was easy and inexpensive, but I think it looked great! I love decorating for kid’s parties, but try to remember that the kids are more into the activities than decor, so not to go overboard!
The menu was really fun to plan and I based it on the characters. We had Riley’s Rigatoni, Anger’s Mad Meatballs, Disgust’s Dips, Sadness’ Snacks, Fear’s Frosty Treats, and Joy’s Jelly Sandwiches. I wanted to keep the menu kid friendly but still wanted some delicious food for the adults to munch on. I think it was a good combination of foods and we did a serious job devouring the dips!
Sadness’s Snacks was the most fun part to put together. I bought these adorable new Kellogg’s Inside Out Fruit Snacks and then we also had rainbow chip cookies, sprinkle donuts, and brightly colored cupcakes. I loved all the bright colors and how they really played along with the theme.
For Disgust’s dips we had both Loaded Baked Potato Dip and White Pizza Dip. The potato dip is my go to chip dip for parties because of how easy it is. The White Pizza Dip was new to me and we loved it! I will definitely make it again! I didn’t get a picture of it to blog, so I will make it again soon and share here!
The Frosty Treats aren’t pictured because it was sweltering out and I was afraid they would melt, but I purchased those bright freeze pop popsicles. The rigatonis and meatballs were so easy to make and I used my basic meatball recipe that I will have to get around to blogging one day!
The kids were excited and didn’t want to sit down to eat, but we got a few bites into them!
We played three games. They were quick, easy and perfect for this pre-school aged crowd. For the first game, I took leftover Easter plastic eggs and drew emotion faces on them. I then separated the top piece from the bottom and mixed them all up. I had the kids put together the matches as fast as they could. They were color coded, so that helped them since they are all so young! This was a fun way to talk about all the different emotions people feel throughout the day.
For the second game, I drew faces on balloons. I left some balloons blank. I called out what type of face the kids should look for and they had to search through the balloons to find it. I told them to make the faces of the balloons that they found and to tell me how they felt.
The last game was emotions hot potato. I played some kid friendly songs and had them pass a blank balloon. When the music stopped, if they were holding the balloon, then they had to make whatever face I called out. The kids all got prizes then for participating! They all got to take home an Inside Out plush, their choice of book, and then a coloring book. I purchased all of these toys from Walmart and the kids seemed so happy to be able to take all their goodies home!
One of the best things about this party is that I bought every last supply at Walmart! The decorations, all the groceries, and all of the Inside Out plush, books, and coloring books!
What a FUN party! I love the games you played, and you’re right, kids care so much more about the games, while parents are all about the decor. 🙂 #client

As I was reading this post I started to say to myself that I have never heard of inside out – but then I quickly remembered, snippets of it come on Disney every day. My kids think it is kind of funny. What a lovely party you put together – those cookies are calling my name!
