Crockpot Italian Sausage Sloppy Joes on Garlic Toast

Crockpot Italian Sausage Sloppy Joes on Garlic Toast are a fun and delicious twist on a classic dinner!
Crockpot Italian Sausage Sloppy Joes on Garlic Toast with Onions and Peppers, slow cooked in the Crockpot, and served over Garlic Bread!

Sausage, especially turkey or chicken sausage, is one of my favorite things to keep stocked in my freezer. You can pull it out and defrost it quickly and it goes great with so many different meals. You can grill it and throw it on a bun. Saute it and toss it with pasta. Or you can remove it from the casings and cook it as a ground meat, which is what I did here.

I don’t make sloppy joes very often, and I didn’t even plan on making it this time, but after the sausage cooked all day in the crockpot, I realized that that was exactly what I had just done! This meal was the Italian version of sloppy joes, and it was even better than the original, if I do say so myself.

I removed the casings on the sausage and browned it lightly in my stoneware crockpot, added in peppers, onions, and tomato sauce, and then let it simmer all day. It smelled absolutely heavenly while cooking and I couldn’t wait to dig in. Once I realized that this mixture resembled sloppy joes, I began scrambling for something to serve this on. After  a quick dig through of the freezer, I found a loaf of garlic bread. You can see where this is going. Slow cooked saucy sausage+garlic bread=THE BEST DINNER EVER! Seriously guys, this was really good. I’m going to shut up now and just share the recipe. There is nothing more to say other than make this soon!

Crockpot Italian Sausage Sloppy Joes on Garlic Toast

Ingredients:
1 lb. Italian seasoned turkey, pork, or chicken sausage, removed from the casings
1 green pepper, diced
1 white onion, diced
1 28.5 oz can crushed tomatoes
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 loaf garlic bread
mozzarella cheese

Brown sausage, then add to crockpot. Add in all remaining ingredients except for the bread and cheese. Cover and cook on low 4-5 hours. Right before serving, check seasonings and add more if necessary. Serve over your toasted garlic bread and sprinkle with cheese, if desired. Enjoy!
