Last week I posted the perfect homemade pizza crust recipe and promised you that it blows store bought crust out of the water. I am going to have to say the same thing about these tortillas…once you make them, it is nearly impossible to go back to store bought. These tortillas use only 5 ingredients (two of which are salt and water, which I know you already have!) and don’t require any special tools other than a food processor. I always thought I would need a tortilla press to make these, but I was wrong! A rolling pin does just as good a job as a tortilla press ever would.
You may not think you have the time to make these, but honestly, they take only half an hour, which is how much time I would have spent running to the grocery store to buy tortillas. Since I always have the five ingredients on hand, this recipe comes together quickly without any grocery shopping in advance.
This is the third time that I have made these, and every time I serve them, everyone is always so impressed and wants to know how they are made. So if you are looking for a way to spice up taco night, I urge you to try these. They are so simple and easy and make your Mexican meals so much more delicious.
How to make homemade flour tortillas:
Homemade Flour Tortillas
Source: Seeded at the Table
Ingredients:
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 heaping tablespoon salt
5 tablespoons butterm softened (you may substitute shortening, lard, or olive oil, but I haven’t tried it)
3/4 to 1 cup water
Instructions:
Using the dough hook, pulse the dry ingredients in the food processor for about 5 seconds until crumbs form.
I had a question about the pastry mat I use, so I thought I’d share. In both this recipe and in the pizza crust, I use this Conimar Pastry mat. This mat has been one of my favorite purchases because its so big, doesn’t slip, cleans up well, and gives such a great surface for rolling out dough. I pull this out to use so much more than I ever expected. Here is the link if you are interested! (Affiliate)

Earlier this week I began preparing the ground beef for tacos only to realize that we had no tortillas! If I had read this then, we could have had tacos! Instead, I made a fabulous homemade hamburger helper!
Pinning this to make my own tortillas! Thanks!

I love homemade flour tortillas. I have never tried to make them. We visited San Antonio a last year and ate at a Mexican restaurant. They had homemade flour tortilla that they brought to the table once you sat down. I thought I was going to be sick from eating so many. They were truly YUMMY!
Thanks for stopping by and linking up at Saturday Dishes.
